THE 'tude

I was going to wish you a Happy International Credit Union Week, but I’ve decided against it. Instead, I’m going to let five different credit unions/CU organizations from around the world do the job.

What’s in a name? Well, only everything and nothing. It’s according to your situation. There was a day when Yellow Page position was top priority, thus AAA names were king. These days, names run the gamut from straightforward to completely obscure.

OK, maybe it’s time we talk about Donnie boy.  He’s been consuming a lot of press lately, so taking a look at him may give us some insight to the behaviors of others, maybe even some folks with whom we work.  While I stand neutral on his politics I take exception when others model his behavior.

The payments industry is evolving at a breakneck speed that has consumers struggling to keep up. From new technology to security concerns, it is more important than ever that credit unions meet the changing needs of members.

Should you ever find yourself listening to an individual member of Congress it is almost impossible not to come away thinking you’ve just heard the most common sense, down-to-earth, practical, rational, America-loving, big-picture-seeing person in the world.

For the second month in a row the number of credit union mergers is up compared to last year.  The NCUA approved 20 mergers in June 2015, which is down from the 25 mergers in July of last year.

CUNA mentions “transparency” as it relates to NCUA just slightly less frequently than members make withdrawals at their CUs’ ATMs. But when it comes to its own board it can sometimes be about as transparent as the College of Cardinals when it comes to selecting a pope.
