WASHINGTON–While recommendations related to CUNA’s structure and its board size have gotten most of the headlines out of the trade association’s board meeting last week, the CUNA board also recommended enhanced cooperation and interdependence with the leagues in the delivery of advocacy for credit unions, which the CUNA board said it is acting upon.

For the second month in a row the number of credit union mergers is up compared to last year.  The NCUA approved 20 mergers in June 2015, which is down from the 25 mergers in July of last year. 

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—When the NCUA board last week approved a final rule to raise the definition for small credit unions to $100 million, one member of the board and others within the movement questioned whether the limit should not be higher. Now, former NCUA Chairman Dennis Dollar, while supporting the agency’s decision, said he believes NCUA’s definition of a small FI should some day be on par with banks’.
