WASHINGTON—Credit unions could see a rise in auto lending, higher salary expenses, and intensified competition from banks if the Big Beautiful Bill (H.R. 1) becomes law in its current form, according to a new analysis by America’s Credit Unions.

WASHINGTON— With the Big Beautiful Bill, H.R. 1, passed last week and the credit union tax status left untouched, the Defense Credit Union Council and America’s Credit Unions each stated they’re stepping up efforts to protect the industry's tax exemption, even as Congress is in recess.

LAKE TAPPS, Wash.—Despite some large credit union combinations this year, assets acquired by credit unions via merger are trending below 2024 levels, according to CEO Advisory Group, which adds that poor financial performance is a growing reason for combinations.
