WASHINGTON—Two influential Republican senators have signed on to the Credit Card Competition Act, giving new momentum to legislation fiercely opposed by credit unions and potentially turning a dispute over cryptocurrency legislation into a renewed battle over interchange fees.

 

WASHINGTON—Congress may be out of town, but credit unions are using the August recess to prepare for a potentially consequential September, with the industry focusing on a newly strengthened Credit Card Competition Act, a pending CFPB open banking rule and several legislative vehicles that could become battlegrounds when lawmakers return.

HARRISBURG, Pa.—A federal grand jury has indicted a Pennsylvania man who allegedly used his position as a credit union board member to gain control of more than $1 million in an elderly woman's retirement savings before spending nearly all of the money on property, a pickup truck and other purchases, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
