Westerra CU Staff Take the Polar Plunge

BOULDER, Colo.—Forty-two employees of Westerra Credit Union participated in the Polar Plunges for Special Olympics here, including some employees taking the icy plunge at 8:50 a.m. when the temperature was just five degrees.

There were five plunges across the state, with the last plunge featuring a water temperature of just 38 degrees on a freezing day. In fact, it was so cold on the day of the last Plunge that the Plunge Pool cracked, which led to an improvised “Polar Pail Challenge,” a version of the Ice Bucket Challenge in which the water was almost literally ice.

The Westerra CU team raised more funds--$14,000—than any other team for Special Olympics—which is why its plungers were featured during a live broadcast on the 9News website.

In Boulder, more than 400 people jumped into the Boulder Reservoir.

All five plunges are expected to generate approximately $350,000 in donations.

Video of the event can be found here.
