CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich.–FreeStar Financial Credit Union, with assistance from a grant from the Michigan Credit Union Foundation, has supported local veterans.
FreeStar Financial received a $9,000 Community Enrichment Grant from the MCUF that will bolster Vets Returning Home, FreeStar Financials’ chosen charity for 2023. FreeStar Financial has topped off the MCUF grant with an additional $1,000.
Vets Returning Home is a 501(c)3 volunteer organization that provides invaluable resources such as housing, clothing, transportation, and education to veterans in need. The organization opened its first thrift store in August 2022 and identified a need for donation bins, which prompted FreeStar Financial to apply for the grant.
The grant will be directed towards the installation of 25 clothing donation bins throughout the community, empowering local residents to contribute directly to the cause. Donated items will fuel the thrift store, providing veterans with essential items and selling the surplus, the credit union said.
In addition to aiding veterans, the initiative will serve the wider community, offering low-income designated areas access to affordable clothing and household items.
