WATERLOO, Iowa–More than 3,000 Iowans shredded 76,683 pounds of unwanted, sensitive documents at Veridian Credit Union’s Community Shred Day events across Iowa. Mobile shred trucks from Shred-it were stationed at event sites in Ankeny, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Waterloo.
“Community Shred Day is the most-requested and best-attended event we host,” said Trina Becker, Veridian’s manager of loss prevention. “That shows people understand the importance of safely disposing of sensitive documents, and we’re happy to provide a free and convenient opportunity to do that.”
The shredded material will be recycled into commercial-grade paper products, saving an estimated 650 trees. Since Veridian’s first Community Shred Day in 2009, the event has recycled approximately 966,183 pounds of documents, saving more than 8,188 trees.
