Ventura County CU's Schroeder Is Honored

VENTURA COUNTY, Calif.— Ventura County Credit Union’s (VCCU) President and CEO Joseph Schroeder has been recognized by El Concilio Family Services during its 28th Annual Latino Leadership Awards. Recipients of the award were chosen for their outstanding contributions to improve the quality of life of the underserved Latino Community.

Schroeder was one of eight community leaders being honored. In 2010, VCCU partnered with the World Council of Credit Unions to develop a team of individuals that did field studies with local farms and Latino field workers. Schroeder spent a day working in the fields to gain a better understanding of their financial struggles. With the help of Schroeder’s leadership and guidance, VCCU launched their Hispanic outreach program to provide educational materials to workers from the community on financial basics.

The 28th Annual Latino Leadership Awards dinner was held at Oxnard Performing Arts Center where recipients were presented the award by El Concilio Family president. Proceeds of the event remained in the community and went directly to supporting El Concilio’s quality programs such as Citizen & Immigration, Direct Assistance, Youth for Success and beyond.

“I feel very privileged to be presented with this award,” said Schroeder. “VCCU strives daily to provide the Latino community with educational resources and support, in addition to partnering with organizations to gather charitable contributions that help sustain our Hispanic Outreach program. Our goal is to make a difference in their lives in any way we can.”
