SAN DIEGO–USE Credit Union (USECU) has named the five recipients of its second annual USECU Dream Scholarship program for the 2021-22 school year. The first place finalist will receive $2,500 and the four remaining finalists will receive $1,000 each.
“We’re proud to give current and future hardworking students a hand up in continuing their dreams,” said Paris Chevalier, SVP and chief experience officer at USE Credit Union. “Supporting our community is at the heart of what we do, and we’re excited to see the impact our student members will have on the world as the next generation of community leaders.”
Since last year, USECU has awarded $13,000 to Dream Scholarship recipients.
The recipients are:
- Sofia O., an active member in her community championing the needs of the underprivileged, has been accepted to University of California Los Angeles and University of California Berkeley.
- Shayda M. is pursuing a degree in Computer Science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and wants to use her degree to help bring positive social change around the world.
- Rebecca P. is beginning a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at San Diego State University and is currently contributing to COVID-19 research and addressing health disparities in minority communities.
- Derek R. aims to apply his degree in Economics from Northwestern University to real-life economic situations, particularly in the video game industry.
- Aine F., a high school student with a passion for her community, will be pursuing a degree at Colorado State University.
