URW Community FCU Receives Pinnacle Award

DANVILLE, Va.– URW Community Federal Credit Union received the 2017 Pinnacle Award – which is presented to a business or organization whose achievements serve as a model for success – during the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Awards Dinner.

“Almost every event and nonprofit have benefitted from this organization,” said Bert Eades, board chair of the Chamber of Commerce and Plant Manager at Elkay Manufacturing. “Their leadership and dedication to a variety of interests have contributed significantly to the socioeconomic prosperity of the Danville-Pittsylvania County region.”

Archie Glass, Chairman of the URW Board of Directors, credited CEO and President Cheryl Doss for the credit union’s success.  Since Doss became CEO, URW went from one branch to 11, Glass said during his remarks.

Started by members of the United Rubber Workers Local in 1970, URW now has 11 locations, nearly 24,000 members and is one of the largest independent, non-profit financial institutions in Danville.  URW also has branches at several local high schools run by students, and provides scholarships to graduating seniors.

Build/design firm DEI has been heavily involved in the strategic growth and branch development as URW continues to expand.
