Tucson Federal Donates $10,000 To Local Schools

TUCSON, Ariz.–Tucson Federal Credit Union (TFCU) presented Sunnyside Unified School District (SUSD) with $10,000 at the district’s Board of Directors meeting. The Legacy Award is an annual donation that supports causes in public education.

“It’s an honor to offer financial services to the community at large but the Legacy Award is one way TFCU pays tribute to its origins as a credit union for teachers,” said TFCU’s President/CEO Susan Stansberry.

SUSD plans to use the funds from the Legacy Award to offer attendance incentives. “If (kids) are in school,” Superintendent, Steve Holmes said, “we know it’s going to lead to better performance.”

TFCU began its partnership with SUSD through a food drive for the Sunnyside Kinney-Vento program. Last December, TFCU employees and members pitched in to donate more than 4,000 items of food for kids who have been identified as homeless through the school district. The Legacy Award offered TFCU an opportunity to build upon this impact.
