HANSCOM AFB, Mass.–Tuck the Bear, the storybook bear who just wants a friend and a cozy place to rest, has found plenty of both during a week-long visit to Hanscom FCU branches in support of a unique back-to-school readiness program.
Tuck is the mascot for A Bed for Every Child, an initiative to provide new beds to children who do not have one. A Bed for Every Child is the brainchild of the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless, one of Hanscom FCU’s charities of choice.
“Most of us take for granted the bed that we sleep in each night. But for thousands of Massachusetts children who are growing up in poverty without a bed of their own, it’s a very basic need that many of these families simply cannot afford,” said Robyn Frost from A Bed for Every Child. “When you think of back to school, you think of backpacks and school supplies, but if a child doesn’t have a bed to sleep in, they will not be well rested and wake up prepared to learn. We are so grateful to Hanscom Federal Credit Union for its generous support. We have responded to the experts that report that a good night sleep is an essential element of a child’s well-being by delivering over 5,000 beds to children living in poverty in the Commonwealth.”
“It’s such a great feeling knowing these kids have a safe place to sleep they can call their own,” said Paul Marotta, chairman of the board for Hanscom FCU. “A Bed for Every Child has a huge impact on a child’s life and we are happy to support this program however we can.”
Tuck the Bear begins a visit to Hanscom FCU with David Sprague, President/CEO; Elaine Jones, VP Branch Administration; and Karla DiDonato, Director of Development for the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless.
