WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.– Truliant Federal Credit Union has donated $10,000 to assist tornado relief and rehabilitation efforts in Guilford County, N.C.
Truliant, which has three branch locations in the county, is donated the $10,000 to the Guilford County Schools Classroom Tornado Relief Fund of the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro. Additionally, Truliant is partnering with WFMY #2Cares to purchase supplies to support neighborhood relief in the hardest hit parts of Greensboro, N.C.
The donation follows a tornado that touched down in east Greensboro, toppling trees and ripping apart homes and businesses, leaving a path of destruction more than 30 miles long, severely impacting the city and neighboring areas.
“This tornado hits especially close to home for us and our hearts go out to all those who’ve been impacted physically and emotionally by its damage,” said Truliant President Todd Hall. “We’re here to improve the lives of our members and their communities and we hope this donation provides some relief to those affected.”
The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro helps shape effective responses to community issues. The fund is supporting tornado relief efforts at Hampton, Erwin, and Peeler Elementary.
The tornado displaced more than 800 students from the damaged schools, which will remain closed for the remainder of the school year.
In addition, the credit union is encouraging anyone who can to make a donation of school supplies, bottled water, tarps or non-perishable food items, or to volunteer to help residents.
