SCARBOROUGH, Maine–Town & Country FCU said its strong commitment to affordable housing can be seen in its financing of nearly 80% of the Habitat homes in the Habitat for Humanity Project located at Carpenter Court in Scarborough.
With the recent closing on financing for a seventh family, Town & Country said it has now financed seven out of the nine traditional Habitat homes in the project. Overall, the credit union has financed eight of the thirteen homes in the project. Four of the homes are being sold through the Scarborough Housing Alliance.
According to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland, the 13-home Carpenter Court project is its largest to date.
David Libby, President and CEO of Town & Country FCU, said that the credit union is thrilled to have “the opportunity to be the financing partner for the majority of the homes in this project. Working with these families to make their dreams come true is very gratifying to our entire staff because it truly is what the credit union philosophy of ‘people helping people’ is all about. Our mortgage lending team has worked tirelessly to make the dream of home ownership a reality for these families.”
Libby said that in addition to providing financing for the majority of the homes in the 13-home project, the credit union’s staff has contributed more than 750 hours to help Habitat build some of the homes. “From home equity to sweat equity, we are all in on our involvement in this affordable housing project.”
