Town & Country FCU Sponsors Cancer Walk, Reports Strong Year

SACO, Maine–Town & Country FCU is reporting its strong support of community events and fundraising causes continues to bring the credit union together with community leaders and elected officials.  While participating at the 21stAnnual Mary’s Walk to raise funds for the Maine Cancer Foundation on Sunday, the credit union had an opportunity to connect with Maine’s new governor, Janet Mills, who addressed participants prior to the start of this year’s Walk.

“We are a strong supporter of the Maine Cancer Foundation through not only sponsorship but strong participation in a number of activities and events, as well as serving on its board of directors,” said David Libby, president and CEO of Town & Country FCU. “We currently have a manager and one of our board members serving on the MCF Board, and I am a past board member at MCF, so our involvement is significant.  It was great to have an opportunity to connect briefly with Governor Mills at the event, and to highlight Town & Country’s deep commitment in helping to make a difference in fighting cancer, as again evidenced by our record-setting amount contributed to this year’s Walk.”

Town & Country FCU had nearly 30 walkers participate in the Walk, and raised a record-setting $5,700 as a team to contribute to the Walk.

“The spirit and passion that our staff have about helping people is really special, whether it’s with financial services or community service,” added Libby.

Separately, Town & Country FCU’s year-end stats for 2018 was highlighted by finishing the year as Maine’s largest credit union by membership, and the second largest CU lender in the state.

As of Dec. 31, 2018, the credit union reported 38,730 members, an increase of more than 1,600 members over the previous year, and nearly 10,000 more members than any other credit union headquartered in Maine.  In addition to membership, the credit union finished the year with $342 million in outstanding loans, an increase of nearly 7%, while deposits grew by a healthy  7%, as well.

“While it is gratifying to see our membership continue to grow at a steady pace, the loan growth indicates that we were able to help more members with their financing needs, which is far more important,” said CEO David Libby. “Additionally, I was pleased to see how engagement and satisfaction with our products from our members show robust growth over the previous year.  Our mobile app is one of the highest rated in the financial services industry with a near-perfect rating of 4.8 out of 5.0 based on feedback from more than 1,700 members, while our Facebook page grew in popularity and has nearly three times as many followers as any other local credit union.  Finally,  though we introduced the Alexa banking skill in 2017, the first credit union and just the fourth financial institution in the country to do so, 2018 marked the first full year of offering this option to our members.  I am pleased to report that usage continued to build this past year, and we look forward to adding more enhancements to our Alexa experience in the future.”
