Town & Country FCU Expands Cancer Screening Benefit

SCARBOROUGH, Maine – Town & Country FCU has announced the expansion of its groundbreaking cancer screening benefit in conjunction with March being National Colorectal Awareness Month.

In April 2017, the credit union began offering a dedicated two days of paid time off for Colon Cancer Screening.  Recognizing that early detection is key to preventing and treating cancer, the credit union said it is pleased to announce that it is expanding its paid time off benefit has been expanded to all cancer screenings, such as breast cancer, lung, prostate, skin, throat and others.

“Since we introduced the Colon Cancer Screening paid time off benefit, we have had a number of our employees take advantage of it, and expect that number to grow,” said David Libby, president and CEO. “By expanding the benefit to all cancer screenings, we are removing yet another barrier keeping employees from getting screened.  Time off is precious to employees, and having to use it to get screened was a deterrent.  It is my hope that all of our nearly 120 employees will take advantage of this benefit and, in turn, we can detect and prevent cancer at an even greater rate.”

Libby said that the credit union is the only employer in Maine that he is aware of to offer such a comprehensive benefit, but he hopes to see others follow suit.  “I have had a number of conversations with other employers interested in offering something similar, and I encourage them to do so because early detection is crucial to preventing and curing cancer.”
