Texas Trust Awards $40K in Scholarships

ARLINGTON, Texas – Texas Trust Credit Union has awarded $40,000 in scholarships to four recent high graduates.

Two graduates of Arlington ISD have received $10,000 scholarships from Texas Trust Credit Union.  

The Lamanda Higginbotham Education Scholarship was awarded to Baylie Gage, an incoming freshman at the University of North Texas. Gage will major in art education. A 2020 graduate of Juan Seguin High School in Arlington, Gage was an active member of the National Honor Society and the Texas Association of Future Educators and was captain of the school’s Color Guard.

Riley Carlin, an incoming freshman at Oklahoma State University and graduate of Arlington High School, received the Lou Nabors Engineering Scholarship. Carlin was a National Honor Society member, played baseball, and was active in band and orchestra throughout high school. Carlin will major in safety engineering and fire protection technology.

The Lamanda Higginbotham scholarship is named for the wife of late Texas Trust board member Don Higginbotham. The Lou Nabors Engineering scholarship is in memory of a past board member. Gage and Carlin will each receive $2,500 annually for up to four years.

“Riley and Baylie have promising futures and we wish them the best in their college endeavors,” said Debi Knoblock, assistant vice president of Business & Community Engagement for Texas Trust.

Meanwhile, Sydnee Rodgers and Endurance-Malcom Badejo are the recipients of the 2020 Texas Trust CU  Bill Hallmark and Rita Hamner Scholarships. The two college-bound seniors are graduates of Mansfield ISD.

Rodgers and Badejo will each receive $2,500 for up to four years, for a total of $10,000 each. 

Rodgers, a graduate of Lake Ridge High School, was awarded the Bill Hallmark Scholarship for Engineering. She plans to attend Spelman College to major in mechanical engineering. Rodgers was a varsity cheerleader and a member of the National Honor Society and African Student Organization.

The Rita Hamner Fine Arts Scholarship was awarded to Endurance-Malcom Badejo, a graduate of Timberview High School. Badejo plans to major in Music Education and Clarinet Performance at the University of Houston. 

“Sydnee and Endurance both had outstanding high school academic records and extracurricular involvement,” said Debi Knoblock, assistant vice president of Business & Community Engagement for Texas Trust. “We hope these scholarships will help them continue to excel and achieve their goals in the next phase of their learning as they prepare for their future.”

The Bill Hallmark and Rita Hamner scholarships are named in honor of former Texas Trust

board members.
