HAUPPAUGUE, N.Y.–Teachers Federal Credit Union has been selected as winner of the New York Credit Union Association’s 2021 Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award in the more than $1 billion asset category.
Teachers CU said it is about people helping people, and when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the need to switch strategy and figure out how to help the community from a distance was evident. Focus was turned to the larger community by providing financial education and supporting local restaurants and hospitals.
Teachers supported the Chambers of Commerce of Bay Shore, Babylon, Patchogue, Port Jefferson and Stony Brook by donating $5,000 to each town which helped support local businesses and provide meals to local hospitals. Also working alongside local Lindenhurt Diner, Teachers covered the costs to prepare and deliver 50 meals to Good Samaritan’s ER COVID-19 Units A & B.
“Despite the challenging situation at hand, the entire organization came together to work towards one goal: serving members and the larger community to the best of their abilities by providing solutions and truly assisting and caring for their needs,” the credit union said.
