TDECU Distributes Free Water

LAKE JACKSON, Texas–In response to the lack of clean water in Brazoria County, TDECU distributed free water on Oct. 2. Hundreds of thousands of Brazoria County residents are grappling with a lack of clean water in the face of news that the area's water supply is contaminated with a deadly amoeba. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has already issued a disaster declaration for Brazoria County.

Dozens of volunteers from TDECU set up a pop-up distribution center in the Brazos Mall parking lot near the credit union. From 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., volunteers distributed 336 cases of water to affected households – TDECU Members and area residents alike.

Authorities have advised Brazoria County residents to avoid using the contaminated water for anything other than flushing toilets. Boiling water is an option, but doesn't provide enough.

“We’re honored to be able to help the community we call home,” said Josh Brian, TDECU VP of Strategic Partnerships. “We began our story in Lake Jackson, and this is a situation affecting all of the residents. We’re a very community-oriented credit union, and we’re here to assist our community during a time of need. The response has been incredible. People are so appreciative, and we appreciate our members and this community.”
