MADISON, Wis.–Guadalupe Salmeron Ibarra has been named recipient of Summit Credit Union’s 2016 Faust Scholarship.
The $5,000 continuing education scholarship is awarded annually to eligible high school seniors who belong to the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County and are members of either STAR Credit Union (the world’s first youth-chartered credit union) or Summit Credit Union, STAR’s sponsor.
“Being a member of the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County has opened many doors for me,” said Ibarra. “It’s prepared me for life after high school by connecting me with professionals around Madison. Without the support I received from the Club, I would not be as successful as I am today.”
A member of the National Society of High School Scholars, Ibarra is East High School’s senior class president and belongs to a number of organizations including the Latino Student Union, the Youth Leadership Board and the East Madison Coalition of the Aging. She is an East Side Express Camp Counselor and has volunteered with the River Food Pantry and Latinos United for College Education Scholarships, among others.
“As a remarkably active member of our community, Guadalupe represents the very best of the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County,” said Summit CEO and president, Kim Sponem. “She fully embodies the spirit of the Summit Credit Union Faust scholarship, and we look forward to her bright future as she begins college this year.”
Guadalupe lives in Madison with her parents, Jose Salmeron and Alicia Ibarra. She will attend Edgewood College in Madison this fall and plans to pursue a degree in
