Suffolk FCU Intro's New Financial Lit Tools For Adults

SUFFOLK, N.Y.–Suffolk Federal is offering a new resource to bring financial literacy to adult learners via an online financial education tool. The credit union said its Financial Empowerment: Online Workshop enables individuals of all levels to develop strong financial skill-sets to successfully take control and manage their finances in an effective manner.  Participation in the program is free and open to all members of the community who live, work or worship in Suffolk County. For new Suffolk Federal members, completion of the program provides a cash-back incentive.
 
 The program was developed by EverFi, an education technology company, and incorporates video, animations, gaming and social networking to effectively teach complex financial concepts in a simple format.

The Financial Empowerment: Online Workshop learning experience is specifically designed for busy people, the CU said, and includes mobile- and tablet-friendly platform that feature a series of 10-minute learning modules that cover such essential topics as Savings & Investments, Building Emergency Savings, Auto Loans, Overdraft, Mobile Payments, Payment Types & Credit Cards, Credit Scores & Reports, Insurance & Taxes, Identity Protection, Mortgages, 529 Savings Plans and Retirement Planning.

The program is self-paced and contains knowledge checks that allow users to measure their accomplishments on an ongoing basis.
 
Suffolk Federal has also brought Everfi’s Financial Literacy program technology to local Long Island High Schools, providing students with access to a cutting-edge curriculum that will enable them to become certified in Financial Literacy.  This program provides students with a strong platform to become financially literate adults and also serves as a valuable distinction which sets the student apart when competing for job opportunities or when filling out college applications.
