State Employees’ CU Appoints Fleming to its Board

RALEIGH, N.C.--State Employees’ Credit Union has appointed Mark Fleming to the SECU Board of Directors.

Fleming will fill the seat of Jim Johnson, who served on the Board from 2001 until his retirement in April 2019.  During Johnson’s tenure, he held the positions of Board Chair and SECU Foundation Board Chair. Fleming also serves as a current member of the SECU Foundation Board of Directors and previously served on the SECU Nominating Committee.  He is the Vice President of Government Affairs for BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina (BCBSNC).  Prior to his current role at BCBSNC, Fleming held the position of Vice President of Government Relations for the 16-campus University of North Carolina System, where he became the University’s primary representative for the U.S. Congress, Federal Government, North Carolina General Assembly, Governor, and state agencies. Before joining the University System, Fleming held leadership roles at N.C. State University, working for the University Chancellor and for the Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.  As Executive Officer, his responsibilities included all legislative efforts and management of the NCSU Board of Visitors.  Fleming graduated from N.C. State University and received his Master of Business Administration from Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky. “We are very pleased to have Mark Fleming as a member of SECU’s Board of Directors,” said SECU Board Chair Jo Anne Sanford.  “With his cooperative spirit of helping others, his leadership and experience, Mark will be a wonderful advocate for the Credit Union and the financial well-being of its 2.4 million members.”
