HOUSTON—For the third consecutive year, Smart Financial CU was named one of the “Best Companies to Work For in Texas.”
Smart Financial is one of 100 companies on the list.
This year, the credit union ranked 12 out of 31 medium employers (100 – 499 employees), improving over last year’s ranking of 23 out of 32 medium employers. The annual list is a project created in 2006 by Texas Monthly, the Texas Association of Business, Texas SHRM and Best Companies Group.

For more than a decade, the “Best Companies to Work for in Texas” has conducted a statewide search to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in Texas. Companies must meet the following requirements to be considered for participation:
- Be a for-profit or not-for-profit business or government entity
- Be a publicly or privately held business
- Have a facility in the state of Texas
- Have at least 15 employees working in Texas
- Be in business a minimum of one year
After qualifying, companies across the state of Texas enter into a two-part survey process. The first step evaluates each nominated company's workplace policies, systems, philosophies, practices, and demographics. An employee survey is then disseminated among staff that measures the employee experience.
Together, the combined scores determine the top companies and the final rankings. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process, analyzing the data to determine the final rankings, the CU explained. The rankings were revealed for the first time at the “Best Companies to Work for in Texas” in Austin.
