Sikorsky CU Interns Teach Fin Lit

STRATFORD, Conn. – Sikorsky Credit Union’s high school interns taught local kindergarteners about financial literacy through the construction of moonjars.

The Credit Union regularly partners with the Town of Stratford to contribute to their educational programs.

This year, in addition to their previous donation of $1,200 towards the purchase of moonjars, a hands-on financial education craft, Sikorsky Credit Union dispatched some of their high school interns to teach kindergarteners a valuable lesson of saving, spending, and sharing, utilizing the educational craft.

Five high school interns from Sikorsky Credit Union went to four Stratford elementary schools and visited with their kindergarten classes, giving them a full lesson on financial literacy with some assistance from their teachers and credit union staff.

“Every age benefits from developing good financial habits,” stated Dan Ruskin of Sikorsky Credit Union. “The interns did a fantastic job, and everyone is happy with how it turned out. I’m very proud of them.”

Throughout the school year, Sikorsky Credit Union conducts financial literacy presentations, demonstrations, and activities in multiple local communities including Ansonia, Danbury, Oxford, Seymour, Shelton, and Stratford.
