San Mateo CU Card Promo Leads to Charitable Donation

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.. – On International Credit Union (ICU) Day, San Mateo Credit Union (SMCU) urged its members to use their debit and credit cards to generate a 25 cent-per-transaction donation to local nonprofit Thrive Alliance.

In all, SMCU members conducted nearly 45,000 debit and credit card transactions, resulting in a $12,000 donation to Thrive Alliance.

"At SMCU, we believe in the power of community and the positive impact we can make when we come together. International Credit Union Day provided a perfect opportunity to leverage the transactions of our members for a greater good,” said President and CEO Wade Painter. “We are thrilled to have raised $12,000 for Thrive Alliance and are thankful to our members for their generosity."

According to the credit union, Thrive Alliance, the alliance of nonprofits for all of San Mateo County, will benefit significantly from this donation. Its mission is to support and promote a nonprofit sector that is a major contributor to the economic and social health of San Mateo County.

Thrive also runs Thrive RISE (Resilience in Shared Emergencies), which activates networks of nonprofits in the event of local emergencies.

"We are truly grateful to San Mateo Credit Union for their generous contribution,” said Georgia Farooq, executive director of Thrive Alliance. “This partnership demonstrates the incredible impact that can be achieved when businesses prioritize giving back to the community. The funds raised will support our mission of creating positive change and improving lives."
