EL PASO, Texas--The auction for 12 pickaxe pieces of art created by esteemed artists to honor
The University of Texas at El Paso’s Centennial year has begun here. The proceeds will benefit deserving UTEP students through the R.C. Morgan Scholarship Endowment Fund created by the GECU Foundation. The 12 pickaxes were designed and created by 12 well-known artists from the El Paso, Juárez, and Las Cruces region, as well as an up-and-coming UTEP student artist. The artists donated their time to this initiative and worked on their pickaxe for approximately three months. These selected artists have become a part of history by reflecting UTEP’s 100-year past in the El Paso community.
“These outstanding pieces are one-of-a-kind treasures that reflect UTEP’s historic past through the talents of present-day local artists,” said GECU President/CEO Crystal Long.
