SSFCU Helps Collect 2.4 Million Pounds of Food

SAN ANTONIO Security Service Federal Credit Union, in partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank and others, helped collect 2.4 million pounds of food during November 2017 for San Antonio families as part of its annual Food4SA campaign. The 2.4-million pounds of food is enough to make more than 1.6 million meals or to feed more than 84,000 people three meals a day for six months.

2017 marked the 15th year Security Service partnered in the Food4SA project, which serves the San Antonio Food Bank’s 16 county service area.

In an effort to engage the next generation of public servants, the program encouraged students throughout San Antonio to compete to see which school could collect the most food. Top-performing schools were awarded $250 each for their efforts throughout the campaign.

“When people are well nourished, they are better able to take care of themselves, their families and serve their communities,” said Eric Cooper, president and CEO for the San Antonio Food Bank. “The Food4SA campaign helps open the doors for positive growth in immeasurable directions. It also reminds people that they are not alone. They are part of a community of neighbors and service-oriented institutions that are ready to walk through the challenges of life with them. Sometimes knowing you’re not alone is the most important part.”
