RALEIGH, N.C.–State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) is taking the opportunity to send a special message to the thousands of government workers employed by one of North Carolina’s largest state agencies, the Department of Transportation (DOT).
The message of appreciation delivers a huge “Thanks for all you do!” to DOT personnel who serve in all divisions, including highways, rail, aviation, the ferry system, bicycle and pedestrian facilities and public transit – the men and women who work hard year-round to provide safe, high-quality transportation for travelers throughout the state. The advertisement is being published in hometown and community newspapers statewide during one week in April.
“SECU is proud to serve as a trusted financial services provider for North Carolina’s state government employees and their families, and we recognize their tremendous commitment to our state,” said Sandra Jones, SECU’s Senior Vice President of Member Communications. “This ad campaign gives us the opportunity to highlight DOT employees, who often work long hours and in dangerous conditions to maintain and improve the state’s transportation system. We appreciate their dedicated efforts to benefit the citizens of North Carolina.”
Separately, the SECU 4-H Learning Center opened its doors on Sunday with a ceremonial Ribbon Cutting at Millstone 4-H Camp in Ellerbe, N.C. Representatives from the SECU Foundation and State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) joined community leaders, 4-H officials and partnering organizations for the dedication of the 3,500-square-foot, multi-use complex where the new Learning Center is housed. The member-funded SECU Foundation first announced its support for the facility in 2011, with a $750,000 challenge grant presented to the North Carolina 4-H Foundation and North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service.
“Today we celebrate the close of the construction phase of the SECU 4-H Learning Center, The Cole Foundation Auditorium and the North Carolina 4-H Hall of Leadership here at Millstone 4-H Camp. But more importantly, we are here to honor the investment made for the future of our state’s youth,” said Richard Linton, Dean of North Carolina State University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. “The hands-on programs and experiences that will take place in this beautiful space will help positively shape the lives of our State’s future leaders. The investment made by SECU Foundation, The Cole Foundation and other private donors is one that will pay incalculable dividends for generations of North Carolina children and families.”
North Carolina 4-H is a grassroots organization in all 100 counties of the state. With roughly one million 4-H alumni statewide, the non-profit’s mission to promote education, health and economic opportunity is reflective of SECU Foundation’s purpose to promote local and community development by funding high-impact projects in the areas of housing, education, healthcare and human services. As such, the 4-H Learning Center project was recommended as an education initiative to the SECU Foundation by SECU’s Rockingham Advisory Board members.
