RED SPRINGS, N.C.– Community supporters gathered here to celebrate the grand opening of Parish Place II, a supportive housing project developed by the North Carolina Indian Housing Authority (NCIHA). Joining State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) Foundation Board member David King in the celebration were NCIHA and partnering officials, and local and State leaders, including Sen. Jane W. Smith, as well as Secretary Bill Daughtridge, Jr. and Deputy Secretary Bill Bryan from the Department of Administration.
The member-funded SECU Foundation worked in conjunction with the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency to provide NCIHA an interest-free construction loan of $782,000 to build the rental housing complex designed for individuals with disabilities.
Created by North Carolina’s General Assembly to provide safe, affordable and decent housing to persons regardless of race, religion or gender, NCIHA has been developing housing for lower income citizens since 1977, and most recently, Parish Place I and II. The new complex received permanent construction financing from the North Carolina Housing Financing Agency.
“Parish Place II is the result of many partnerships – State, public agencies and non-profits coming together to enhance the lives of families by providing safe and sound housing for persons with disabilities,” said Barbara Melvin, Executive Director of the North Carolina Indian Housing Authority. “Supportive housing projects like this provide services to some of the most deserving and appreciative citizens in North Carolina. We are grateful to State Employees’ Credit Union members, the SECU Foundation and the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency for their support.”
