RALEIGH, N.C. – A grand opening was held in Ahoskie, N.C. for Longview Terrace Apartments, a new housing initiative that received the support of State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) members via the SECU Foundation.
Assistance from the Foundation came in the form of a no-interest construction loan of $967,000 to the Ahoskie Housing Authority to help build a safe affordable housing community for lower income individuals with disabilities. SECU Foundation worked in conjunction with the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency for the project’s construction financing.
The Ahoskie Housing Authority has been working to develop public housing in the Ahoskie area since 1947. The Longview Terrace Apartments are handicap accessible, single bedroom/bathroom units with a kitchen, living room and porch. Transportation for shopping and other services is provided for residents by the Ahoskie Housing Authority and partnering agencies.
“Longview Terrace provides affordable housing that fits seamlessly into the surrounding community,” said Tyrone Lindsey, Executive Director of Ahoskie Housing Authority. “We believe Longview Terrace is a community asset that residents and neighbors will cherish for years to come.”
James Eure, Senior Vice President of SECU’s Ahoskie branch commented, “SECU members were happy to partner with the Ahoskie Housing Authority to provide construction financing for Longview Terrace Apartments. Creating safe affordable housing for North Carolinians in need demonstrates the Foundation’s purpose of promoting local community development throughout the state.”
