SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – During a California-Nevada Credit Union League Awards Ceremony, Santa Cruz Community CU President/CEO Beth Carr and and Board Chair Howard Sherrer (Board Chair) each received a prestigious award.
Carr received the 2022 Social Impact Award, which honors individuals who demonstrate an unyielding dedication to building stronger communities and improving members’ lives.
“Beth drives our mission of providing economic justice in all we do at the Credit Union,” stated Katie Fairbairn, chief experience officer. “It is the lens by which we do everything at the Credit Union, from developing products and services to how we serve each of our members. It is a well-deserved honor for Beth.”
Sherrer received the 2022 J. Alvin George Outstanding Volunteer Award, which honors significant contributions by people who serve credit unions in volunteer capacities.
“Howard has been an incredible leader for our credit union throughout these past couple of years, especially when you look at his direction in guiding the credit union through the pandemic,” stated Carr. “He sees the community’s needs and gives us the freedom to meet those needs while being fiscally responsible simultaneously.”
California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues President and CEO Diana Dykstra commended the leaders on their guardianship of the industry and its ideals as they continue serving members. “Each honoree has proven their commitment to the credit union movement in so many ways,” she said. “We want to commend them for doing great things in their communities and for their members.”
“I was so shocked and humbled to be honored this way,” stated Carr. “I have to credit my team and our board of directors at the credit union—they make things happen daily for our members. It’s a privilege to be part of such a community-focused organization and work with such amazing people.”
