Redwood Raises Funds For United Way; Holds Free Financial Wellness Seminar

SANTA ROSA, Calif.–Redwood Credit Union (RCU) completed its 2015 United Way workplace giving campaign with total contributions of $102,866, exceeding this year’s campaign goal of $100,000, to support United Way of the Wine Country. RCU raised $98,175 for United Way last year.

The credit union offered several unique incentives to encourage employees to contribute: prize raffles, casual days, smoothie parties and more. In addition to supporting with monetary contributions, RCU employees recently volunteered in United Way’s Day of Caring. Volunteers this year focused on two projects in Santa Rosa, packing food for the Redwood Empire Food Bank, packing meals for Council on Aging and food preparation for Ceres Community Project in Sebastopol.

Separately, Redwood Credit Union (RCU) offered a free financial wellness seminar with well-known author, TV personality, and personal finance expert, Jean Chatzky. Nearly 900 guests attended the event at Sonoma State University’s Green Music Center, ranging from students to those of retirement age. RCU offered the event as part of its ongoing effort to promote financial literacy.

Known for her straightforward personal finance tips, Chatzky covered a range of topics, including setting financial goals, protecting your investments, and the importance of giving to others. She also shared financial tips from her book “Money Rules,” which she signed for attendees following the event.

During a question and answer session, Redwood Credit Union President and CEO, Brett Martinez, discussed the importance of creating a budget and the significant savings that can be gained by loan refinancing.

“Like Redwood Credit Union, Jean Chatzky is committed to helping people find long-term financial success,” said Martinez. “This event demonstrates one of the many ways RCU provides valuable money management education and resources to our community.”
