UKIAH, Calif. – Redwood Credit Union (RCU) hosted a free document shredding event at its branch here.
Approximately 350 local residents brought old financial documents and other confidential paperwork—15,000 lbs. in total—to be safely shredded on site by Shred-IT. Approximately 1,410 lbs. of electronic waste was also safely disposed of by Conservation Corps North Bay.
“Shredding sensitive documents like old financial statements and bills is one of the best precautions people can take against identity theft, so we were happy to once again provide this service to our community,” said Todd Andrus, RCU’s Ukiah branch manager.
The Humane Society of Inland Mendocino County also collected $1,087 at the event and brought adoptable pets, several of which found homes that day.
RCU holds Shred-a-Thons annually in four of the communities it serves.
