Redwood CU Announces Board Elections

SANTA ROSA, Calif.Redwood Credit Union (RCU) has re-elected five volunteer officials for three year terms, 2016 to 2019.

Incumbents Rod Dole, Dave Imoto and Lisa Wittke Schaffner were re-elected to the credit union’s board of directors, and incumbents Martin Grove and Steve Sharpe were re-elected to RCU’s supervisory committee.

RCU’s board of directors sets the credit union’s strategic direction and policies, while the supervisory committee oversees the audit function for the credit union. Because credit unions are not-for-profit cooperatives, RCU’s board and supervisory committee members serve voluntarily and are elected by the membership.

Rod Dole is the retired auditor/controller/treasurer/tax collector for Sonoma County and is actively involved in the community. Currently, he serves as co-chair for Ygrene, a trustee for CALTrust Board of Trustees, and is on the president’s advisory board at Sonoma State University. Mr. Dole has served as a volunteer official for Redwood Credit Union since 1978.

He retired from PG&E, where he managed energy conservation programs in the North Bay. He is a graduate of UC Berkeley and Santa Rosa Junior College, and is a Vietnam veteran. Active in the community, Mr. Imoto served as president of both the Coddingtown Lions Club, (where he served as a member for 25 years,) as well as the Santa Rosa United Soccer Club, Community Action Partnership, Tomorrows Leaders Today, and Sonoma County Office of Education. Currently, he prepares income tax returns for low income families in Sonoma County through the United Way of the Wine Country and trains new volunteers. Mr. Imoto also teaches federal income tax law and mathematics at Empire College.

Lisa Wittke Schaffner is executive director of the John Jordan Foundation, a nonprofit that supports disadvantaged youth.

Previously, she served as CEO of the Sonoma County Alliance, past president of the Healdsburg Soroptimist Club, and has held several local government offices, including two non-consecutive terms as mayor of Healdsburg. Ms. Wittke Schaffner has degrees in government and journalism from California State University at Sacramento. Currently, she serves on the Sonoma County Board of Education, and is both a Social Advocates for Youth board member and United Way board member. She has been an RCU volunteer official since 2012.

Martin Grove has been a volunteer official with RCU since 2003 and is retired from the California State Compensation Insurance Fund.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Sonoma State University. Mr. Grove has served on the Board of Directors for the Sonoma County Volunteer Center, as well as Blood Bank of the Redwoods.

Steve Sharpe has served on RCU’s supervisory committee since 1992.

He is owner of Sharpe Associates, a land use and planning consulting business in Santa Rosa. Previously, Mr. Sharpe worked as an administrative analyst in the Sonoma County Administrator’s Office and was executive officer of the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO). He has a bachelor’s degree from UC Davis. Mr. Sharpe is also a member of the Bennett Valley Union School District and is active in the Bennett Valley Vision community program.

The credit union’s officials have selected officers for the year as follows: Robert Eyler as board chair, Robert Steele as board vice chair, Jim Olmsted as board secretary, Lisa Wittke Schaffner as board treasurer, David Gouin as supervisory committee chair, M. Christina Rivera as supervisory committee vice chair, and Steve Sharpe as supervisory committee secretary.
