MIDLAND, Mich.–Dow Chemical Employees CU has been voted the No. 1 Credit Union in the Midland Daily News’ 2019 Readers’ Choice Awards. This is the fifth consecutive year – and the 13th time in the last 14 years – that DCECU has received the honor. In addition, DCECU was voted the area’s number-one mortgage lender for 2019.
“Five years in a row of being named the area’s favorite Credit Union in the Readers’ Choice Awards truly is an honor – and to have the added recognition of being the favorite local Mortgage Lender this year as well just sweetens the deal,” said DCECU President/CEO Dennis Hanson. “We appreciate all the votes of confidence from the community we work so hard to serve both financially and personally.”
In terms of community involvement, DCECU noted it recently supported Garber Chevrolet Midland’s “Stuff the Bus” event, which collects school supplies for early childhood programs throughout the county, and collected food and personal care items to support local pantries. Employees also routinely volunteer at The Diaper Alliance, The Bridge Food Center and Midland’s Open Door and participate in community cleanup and home-building projects, among other community service endeavors.
On the financial well-being side, the credit union has a reputation for saving its members hundreds of dollars a yearthrough low rates on loans, high returns on savings and fewer fees than other financial institutions. DCECU also is one of only a handful of credit unions in the nation that routinely gives a portion of its earnings back to its members.
Since 1999, DCECU has given back nearly $175 million to members, including $19.4 million for 2018.
