Rap Song About CUs Wins Award

COLUMBUS, Ohio—The Ohio Credit Union Foundation has announced the winner of its annual $5,000 Video Scholarship Fund.

Billy Turner of Akron won the top prize towards his Ashland University education with an original rap song he wrote and produced that tells why credit unions are a better financial institution.

“I wrote the lyrics myself,” said Turner, an Ohio Healthcare Federal Credit Union and Towpath Credit Union member of three years. “I became a credit union member because of my mother, Debbie Turner. She let me know how the credit union has better interest rates.”

The video scholarship contest requirement was to create an interactive 60-second to 2½-minute video based on one of the five fundamentals of credit unions and use it to convince a best friend why it's better to use a credit union than any other kind of financial institution.

Turner wrote and produced a rap song titled, “Tell You Why It’s Better,” and hit on all the fundamentals and values of a credit union. He is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management.
