RMJ Golf Tournament Raises $50,000

ONTARIO, Calif.–The Richard Myles Johnson (RMJ) Foundation/CU Direct Golf Tournament at the Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, Calif. raised more than $50,000 for the state foundation for credit unions in California and Nevada. 

The event attracted 123 players and 38 sponsors. Ontario, Calif.-based CU Direct served as the title sponsor.

“This fun-filled event helps us to fund the Foundation’s Bite of Reality, an interactive youth financial education program,” said RMJ Executive Director Tena Lozano. “This year, the program is expected to reach as many as 15,000 teens throughout California and Nevada, providing them with a taste of real-work financial realities.’”

The tournament’s winning group featured Ray Bartus, Don Matthews, and Ben Holguin of Cerritos, Calif.-based POPA Federal Credit Union and Tyler Pearson of El Dorado Hills, CA-based Integrated Builders Group. The foursome representing San Bernardino, Calif.-based Arrowhead Credit Union—Gus Ortiz, Chad Otis, Shaun Markow, and Halston Barcelo—came in second. In third place were Bruce Bauer, Scott Stearns, Todd Pearson, and Greg Hardin of CUNA Mutual Group.

In addition to CU Direct, other major sponsors were CO-OP Financial Services, CUNA Mutual Group, SchoolsFirst FCU, Catalyst Corporate FCU, and Educational Employees CU. Champion sponsors were Greater Nevada CU; Kinecta FCU; Sierra Central CU, Wright, Finlay & Zak, LLP; University CU, Wescom CU, and the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues.
