Prodigy Staff Raise Funds Via Step-Up Challenge

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah–Prodigy held its first annual Step-Up Challenge activity to support a local charity and create health awareness for employees. During the month-long event, employees counted more than seven-million steps, collectively the equivalent of more than 3,000 miles.

For the event, Prodigy pledged 15 cents for every mile walked by the staff. Combined with a match of the pledge by the company, Prodigy employees raised $950 to be donated to the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) Utah in Salt Lake City.

Prodigy said it advocates the Seven Cooperative Principles, including concern for community, participation, and open and voluntary membership. While employees certainly took it upon themselves to outpace each other, participants took the opportunity to focus on self-improvement, participation, and charity, regardless of skill level, the company said.

“This event created some great awareness for individuals while focusing on contributing in a positive way to the community. An example that inspired me this year was one of the teams, who in her efforts lost 20 pounds and was our ‘high stepper’ for the activity,” said Bret Weekes, CEO of Prodigy. “It brings into focus the community and gives us an opportunity to contribute.”

CUProdigy said it expects the event will now occur annually.
