SAN JOSE, Calif.–PremierOne Credit Union presented two college-bound students with scholarships at a recent virtual online ceremony.
For the past four years, PremierOne Credit Union has awarded scholarships in support of student members' future educational endeavors. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the credit union had to forego the original plans for an in-person ceremony. However, it still found a way to honor and celebrate the 2020 Scholarship recipients online during the Aug. 19 ceremony.
Johnson Tran of San Jose was awarded the Richard Busse Memorial Scholarship based on his community involvement. Tran is a graduate of Independence High School in San Jose. He plans to major in communication and media at either UC Berkley or USC this fall.
Liana William of Santa Clara was awarded the Robert DeBarr Scholarship based on her outstanding leadership skills. William graduated from Santa Clara High School in June 2020 and will attend Whittier College or California Polytechnic Pomona, where she will major in biochemistry/chemistry.
“Helping our young members achieve success through their educational goals is a priority for us,” said PremierOne CU President and CEO Andrea Brewer.
The PremierOne Scholarship Program offers two scholarships to graduating high school seniors or undergraduate students to recognize outstanding leadership skills and excellence in community service. The program was created to honor the late Robert E. DeBarr, a board volunteer, and the late Richard Busse, who was part of the Supervisory Committee and served the community for more than 40 years.
"PremierOne Credit Union congratulates our two scholarship recipients and wishes them great success with their academic career," Brewer said.
