PenFed Supports Food Bank

TYSONS, Va.–PenFed Credit Union supported Washington D.C.’s Capital Area Food Bank with a food drive Nov. 2-13. PenFed matched the $2,500 in contributions raised by its Greater Washington area employees bringing the total donation to $5,000. Employees also volunteered to package boxes of donations at the food bank and donated non-perishable foods.

“When PenFed learned the Capital Area Food Bank experienced a 70% reduction in donations since the beginning of the pandemic, we knew our employees would step up to help,” said PenFed Credit Union President/CEO and PenFed Foundation CEO James Schenck. “The credit union motto is ‘people helping people’ and we are proud to support our Greater Washington area community where many of our members and employees live and work.”

In addition to collecting food and donations in local PenFed offices, 13 employees and their immediate family members volunteered and sorted donations in the Capital Area Food Bank’s Washington D.C. warehouse.

PenFed donates 2% of its annual net income to charitable organizations, with the majority going to military and veterans charities and the local communities where PenFed service centers are located. The PenFed Foundation, a national 501(c)3 founded by PenFed Credit Union, was created in 2001 and, since then, has provided more than $38.5 million in financial support to veterans, active-duty service members, families and caregivers.
