PenFed Celebrates Opening of New Headquarters

TYSONS, Va.—Several hundred local business, political, community and military leaders joined PenFed Credit Union to inaugurate its new headquarters in Tysons Corner.

The state-of-the-art facility will accommodate the country’s second-largest federal credit union’s rapidly growing business and employee base, PenFed said.

PenFed manages $21.3 billion in assets and employs more than 800 people in the Washington, DC metro area. Last year, PenFed hired 348 people in the DC area. The $180-million new headquarters at 7940 Jones Branch Drive will accommodate up to 500 employees and provides PenFed with room to grow over the next 15 years as a major employer in Virginia.

Northern Virginia’s 10th district Congresswoman Barbara Comstock was among those in attendance who spoke at the event.

“I am happy to join my friends at PenFed to celebrate their new $180 million headquarters in Northern Virginia. With 750 employees in Northern Virginia and ongoing job creation here, PenFed continues to strengthen its commitment to our region. James Schenck and his team serve the financial needs of more than 180,000 Virginians and have given back to our community including, for example, contributing more than $4 million in the past year alone to support veterans in Northern Virginia, including recent donations to the Northern Virginia Technology Council’s Veterans Employment Initiative. I look forward to working with James and the PenFed family as they continue to grow the Northern Virginia economy.”
