LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.– Peach State FCU celebrated the opening of its student-run branch at Central Gwinnett High School with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by school officials, credit union board members and local government.
Staffed by seven junior and senior students, and supervised by a full-time credit union staff member, this branch serves employees, students and their families. Each student completed a summer internship with the credit union, gaining experience in a variety of departments including accounting, business development, and marketing. They also received teller training to ensure that they were prepared to assist members with their needs when the branch opened its doors, the credit union said.
Adjacent to the branch is the entrepreneurial suite, a place for financial literacy seminars and other activities to help the students in a variety of ways.
“Peach State has strong roots in education, beginning with our founders, who were employees of Gwinnett County Public Schools,” said Peach State COO/EVP Laura Ryll. “We’re proud of this new branch and the bright students who have become part of our team. Our goal is to bring convenience to our members and offer some exceptional students a special learning opportunity has been fulfilled.”
The Mayor of Lawrenceville, Judy Jordan Johnson, and multiple members of the Gwinnett County Board of Education, including CEO/Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks, offered congratulations to the staff, and assisted with the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
