Peach State Foundation Donates $60,000

CORNELIA, Ga. – The Peach State FCU C.A.R.E.S. Foundation has announced a $60,000 commitment to the Tim Lee Boys & Girls Club in Habersham County over the next six years.

The club’s steering committee has a goal of raising $1 million in combined one-time and annual financial commitments. According to Matthew Cooper, Superintendent of Habersham County Schools and a member of the steering committee, the long-term goal will be to operate two facilities in Habersham County. “We have already raised enough funds to operate an all-day summer camp which is projected to serve 100 students in grades 4-7 at no cost to our Habersham families,” Cooper said. “I am personally very excited about the prospect of having a Boys and Girls Club here in Habersham County. I believe it has the potential to be the most significant community initiative regarding helping our at-risk youth outside of the school day.”

The Foundation, launched in March, has a mission to help their neighbors with contributions throughout the credit union’s service area.

“We are so pleased to be a part of this important initiative in Habersham County,” said Foundation President Demitra Houlis. “Peach State was founded by educators 60 years ago and the Foundation honors those roots in education through our support of children, educators and school systems throughout our footprint. We look forward to supporting this organization as they grow and provide this vital service to the youth in our community.”
