HARRISBURG, Penn.–PSECU Financial Education Manager Sara K. Weiser was recently honored by Junior Achievement (JA) USA with a 2016-17 Bronze Leadership Award. This award recognizes individuals in the community who have demonstrated a sincere commitment to JA’s mission of inspiring and preparing young people to succeed in a global economy.
Weiser was one of just six South Central Pennsylvania this year who received this prestigious honor.
Weiser has been involved with Junior Achievement of South Central Pennsylvania (JASCPA) since she began working with PSECU more than three and a half years ago. Her initial efforts in this capacity were aimed at aligning JASCPA’s mission with PSECU’s focus on financial education to help students K-12 learn important financial skills and information in a fun way.
Since then, Weiser’s involvement has grown to include service on the Harrisburg Regional Council for JASCPA and participation on the Steering Committee for the Central Young Women’s Futures Symposium. Additionally, she has taken on multiple other JASCPA commitments ranging from in-class programs and one-day special events to fundraising and completing grant applications. Weiser also coordinated an increase in the support provided to JASCPA by PSECU, raising the total to over $10,000 a year.
“My involvement with Junior Achievement has been extremely rewarding, and I am humbled to receive this award. I hold the organization in the highest esteem and love bringing financial education to students in a way that is fun and engaging,” Weiser said. “It’s been a privilege to work alongside JASCPA’s talented staff and the hundreds of dedicated volunteers that make their programming possible. I encourage anyone unfamiliar with the organization to find their local office on juniorachievement.org and get involved in bringing this crucial programming to their community.”
