PSECU Sponsors Coaches vs. Cancer Fundraiser

HARRISBURG, Penn.–As part of its second consecutive year-long presenting sponsorship of the Coaches vs. Cancer of Penn State initiative, PSECU hosted the 22ndAnnual Coaches vs. Cancer Golf Tournament at at the Penn State Golf Courses. Benefiting the American Cancer Society, the Coaches vs. Cancer Golf Tournament is the organization's flagship fundraising event.

"PSECU was started more than 80 years ago when 22 ordinary people decided to take control of their finances and make a better life for themselves and their families. They pooled their money and with just $90, they started what is today the state’s largest credit union with more than 430,000 members and over $5 billion in assets," said PSECU President Greg Smith. "With our 22 founders’ altruistic legacy in mind, we continually look for ways to contribute to the betterment of our community and beyond in multiple ways, including financial education programming, employee volunteerism, sponsorships, and charitable giving. We couldn’t be prouder to include our collaborative efforts with Coaches vs. Cancer of Penn State as part of that outreach.”

During the tournament, which took place on both the Penn State Blue Course and the Penn State White Course, each participating foursome was partnered with a Penn State celebrity for a round, resulting in an enjoyable and memorable event to support a worthwhile cause. An awards dinner in the President’s Suite at Penn State's Beaver Stadium will conclude the tournament.

The Coaches vs. Cancer program is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches that empowers coaches, their teams, and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer. The program leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs.

Penn State Head Basketball Coach Patrick Chambers explained the Coaches vs. Cancer of Penn State initiative and the Nittany Lion motto of approaching adversity with a choice: "We strive within our basketball program to reach a standard of excellence from our players, coaches, and staff. We believe the same standard, with energy and enthusiasm, can be applied to Coaches vs. Cancer of Penn State to make it one of the most successful programs in the country helping the American Cancer Society provide support. We've had challenges, as a basketball team and in our daily lives, but we always strive to meet them and overcome them. As I tell the players, if you stay focused with your attitude, you can accomplish anything. It takes a team effort to make a difference in the fight against cancer in our community and beyond, and that's our goal."

"Coaches vs. Cancer benefits the great work of the American Cancer Society, whose mission is to free the world from cancer. That’s a truly inspiring goal, and one that will have an incredibly significant and far-reaching impact for so many people,” explained PSECU Vice President of Marketing and Membership Development Barb Bowker. "We at PSECU are thrilled to contribute to the cause though this partnership with Coaches vs. Cancer of Penn State, and we look forward to jointly fostering support and raising awareness.”
