PSECU Partners With Univesity on Fin Ed

HARRISBURG, Penn.–To assist students in managing their finances, PSECU and Edinboro University partnered to host eight virtual financial education seminars as part of the university’s First-Year Experience (FYE) Common Hour. The live, online seminars were held simultaneously.

“College years are an important time of learning, not just from classroom lessons, but also from new, real-world experiences like living on your own and overseeing personal finances for the first time,” said PSECU President and CEO George Rudolph. “As part of our commitment to serve as a trusted financial partner in the community, we at PSECU are proud to provide financial education resources that lay the groundwork for students’ future money management success. We’re glad that Edinboro University also values the importance of financial education and has partnered with us to share this learning opportunity with first-year students.”

Participating students were able to select the session that best fit their learning needs from eight unique, age-appropriate topics, including:

  • First Spending Plans/Budgeting
  • Credit
  • Identity Theft
  • Finances & Future Employment
  • Understanding Student Loans
  • Navigating the Financial Impact of COVID-19
  • How to Shop for a Credit Card
  • Money Management in Times of Crisis

Each seminar was hosted by a financial expert from PSECU and included an icebreaker activity, topic presentation, and interactive learning game and/or workshop. An interactive, open question-and-answer period concluded each session.

“Edinboro University is committed to giving our first-year students an extended department and university orientation throughout their fall semester at EU,” said Dr. Karen Lindeman, FYE Coordinator and professor in the Early Childhood and Reading Department at Edinboro. “By offering both First-Year Seminars and the weekly Common Hour, such as the financial literacy event, our new students are ensured a smooth transition to college. The financial literacy event sponsored by PSECU is a great example of the well-rounded opportunity FYE offers to our new students to help them discover new things, connect with peers, engage with faculty and staff, and grow to be a Fighting Scot.”
