PSECU Partners On Drive To End Hunger

HARRISBURG, Penn.– One in eight people and one in five children in Central Pennsylvania struggle with hunger. During September, Hunger Action Month - a nationwide initiative to raise awareness and take action to help end hunger - the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank (CPFB) is partnering with Presenting Sponsor PSECU to host events, awards, and a virtual food drive initiative to highlight the issue of hunger in our area and spur community action.

“Nearly half a million people here in Central PA are hungry,” said Joe Arthur, Executive Director of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. “The Food Bank has easy ways for our community to do their part during Hunger Action Month. Whether you can make a monetary donation, or spare a few hours to volunteer, you can fight hunger and help your neighbors.”

“At PSECU, we believe in the credit union philosophy of ‘people helping people,’ and that’s why on behalf of our more than 400,000 members, it’s an honor to announce PSECU’s role as Presenting Sponsor of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank Hunger Action Month,” said PSECU President Greg Smith. “We hope that our joint efforts help foster positive change.”

Hunger and community advocates from our area, like CPFB’s 5,000 volunteers and PSECU, are working together to shine a light on the issue of hunger and extend a hand to the one in eight of their fellow Central Pennsylvanians who are hungry.

During Hunger Action Month, PSECU will also be hosting a virtual food drive, a new, online initiative of Central Pennsylvania Food Bank that allows Central Pennsylvania businesses and groups to raise funds to support the Food Bank’s work. On this platform, supporters can challenge friends and family with a virtual food drive on an interactive website that simulates how monetary donations efficiently purchase food for hungry families, veterans, and seniors.

In addition to their promotion of the Hunger Action Month virtual food drive, PSECU will be highlighting hunger issues throughout the month of September. They will be promoting ways families can use effective budgeting to make healthy food choices, highlighting hunger issues on college campuses, and volunteering at the Food Bank as a hands-on way to help their neighbors in need.
