HARRISBURG, Penn.–Following nearly four decades of volunteer service to PSECU members, George J. West has retired from the PSECU board. Since 1980, West has contributed expert knowledge of the financial services industry to the organization’s leadership efforts. He has also served multiple terms in board officer positions, and exhibited strong board committee involvement of behalf of PSECU members’ financial well-being.
“Speaking for all of the PSECU family – our employees, as well as our more than 400,000 members - I extend my sincerest appreciation to George West for his dedication and commitment to supporting our mission to provide the best value to our members throughout their lives,” said PSECU President Greg Smith. “For over 37 years, he has used his board position to further and strengthen the credit union movement, which has contributed to the financial stability of hundreds of thousands of credit union members at PSECU and beyond.”
During his tenure on the PSECU board, West served as chair of the Finance and Member Services Committee, as board treasurer for eight years (2004-2013), and as board chair for four years (1994-1997).
West retired from the U.S. Treasury Department as a financial products specialist. His professional background also includes several roles in state government, including director of financial management for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Office of the Budget and comptroller for various state agencies. Additionally, he worked in the private sector as a financial manager for 12 years.
“The depth and breadth of financial knowledge that George brought to the PSECU board was invaluable to our growth and success,” added Smith. “His keen understanding of the importance of financial security provided a strategic and well-founded basis to our endeavors to support our members’ financial needs while remaining their fully trusted financial partner.”
An active member of the community, West has served as treasurer for the Pennsylvania Credit Union Foundation Board, the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, and the Wiconisco High School Alumni Scholarship Foundation. His efforts also include involvement with Vision Resources of Central Pennsylvania.
Upon his retirement, PSECU Board of Directors appointed West as an Emeritus Director.
