HERNDON, Va.–Northwest FCU is investing in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) literacy for the children of northern Virginia by sponsoring the Children’s Science Center’s Discovery Zone Gallery in the Lab. The credit union’s support backs a hands-on learning environment for up-and-coming scientists five years and under.
“We recognize that STEM education is critical for America’s children, especially in Northern Virginia where 51% of new jobs in the coming years will require STEM skills,” said Northwest Federal’s President and CEO, Chris McDonald. “We’re committed to investing in our community and supporting other not-for-profits. That’s why, in addition to our donation, volunteers at the Children’s Science Center are eligible for credit union membership as part of our Community Partners program.”
The Children’s Science Center Lab currently resides in a 5,400 square foot space in Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax and is looking to move to its 70,000 square foot permanent space in Dulles, Va. in the future. The partnership with Northwest Federal allows the Children’s Science Center to continue and expand its offerings.
