Northwest FCU Foundation Conducts Food for Kids Drive

HERNDON, Va.–The Northwest FCU Foundation, the charitable arm of Northwest FCU, recently concluded its Food for Kids Drive, collecting 32,000+ food items for local children in need.

The drive was in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has increased the need for supplemental food for area school children. It ran from June 1st through the end of August and included a new partnership for the Foundation with Giant Food.

“The overwhelming support we received has enabled the NWFCU Foundation to surpass all previous goals,” said Executive Director of the NWFCU Foundation Kaycee Childress. “Giant Food and their customers, the employees of Whitney, Bradley & Brown, and our incredibly generous members all came through for the children in our community.”

The Foundation is an Ignite Partner with Fairfax County Public Schools, working with Susan Livingood of Dogwood Elementary School in Reston to provide much-needed food to their families with hunger issues.

In addition, the Foundation works with Nancy Latourrette at Sterling Middle School, Rosa Tobar at INMED Partnerships for Children, and Karen Pope of the Herndon Neighborhood Resource Center. In addition to food donations, the Foundation received significant cash donations for this food drive, which will allow for future food deliveries as the pandemic continues this fall.
